About Cattistock Dorset.

Cattistock village is located six miles north west of Dorchester. In 2002 the village had a population of 440 but like many of the attractive Dorset villages this number is greatly increased by tourism, the delights of rural Dorset are on the doorstep and the Jurassic coast is only about 20 mins away.
Cattistock is quintessential Dorset village it has a church, a pub, a village shop and a village hall. There is also a cricket ground, football ground and grass tennis court.
The church of St Peter & St Paul is most impressive building. A lot of the church was rebuilt in the late nineteenth century by the architects Sir George Gilbert Scott and his son George Gilbert Scott. The son was responsible for the magnificent tall tower which he apparently modelled on a 15th century tower at Charminster. Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, one of the most learned and stimulating writers on art and architecture, thought that the church at Cattistock was "the masterpiece among Dorset churches." Cattistock churchyard is regularly visited by a small number of Hawfinches in winter even though this species is not reliably present anywhere else in Dorset. Inside the church is a fantastic William Morris window and a very ornate font. St Peter & St Paul Church won the 'New Entrant' category in the 2005 living churchyard competition
This small village has a wonderful community spirit and there is usually something going on or being planned. Activities mentioned include badminton, short mat bowls, crib, darts, tennis, cricket, football, WI, British Legion, horse riding and whist and probably many more.
