About: Highcliffe Castle has a somewhat checkered history since it was first built in 1835. Over its long history it has had a brief spell as children's convalescent home and also a catholic seminary and then it became disused in 1966 following a fire. Christchurch Council acquired the site in 1977 after its fabric had been attacked by two more fires and to date they have fully restored the exterior of the building
