About: Attractive buildings at Blandford Forum make this one of Dorset's prettiest towns. Three quarters of the town was destroyed by fire in 1731 and 480 families were made homeless. A massive rebuilding programme ensued and the result can be attributed in the main to a local firm called Bastard & Co. They were architects, joiners and practically anything else including funeral directors. John and William Bastard were responsible for the building of the church and the Town Hall and had a hand in numerous other projects.
