About: In the 18th and 19th centuries there were scores of quarries extracting Portland and Freestone from the Purbeck the best seams were worked to produce paving stones. Today the quarries on The Ridgeway and the one at St. Aldhelms Head are the only working quarries in the area.
St Aldhelms Quarry is owned by Haysom and Sons who are a well known local quarrying family.
